Chargers Fall in Region IV Sectional Despite Dramatic Rally in Game 2

The Carl Sandburg College baseball team forced a decisive Game 3 but saw its season end with a 2-1 series loss to Lake County on Saturday in its Region IV sectional. The Chargers closed their season with a 25-32 record.

Key Moment
Jake Harmon’s two-run homer in the fifth put the Lancers ahead for good at 4-3. Lake County tacked on three more runs in the seventh to open up a 7-3 lead.

Key Moment
Down to their final three outs, the Chargers staged a dramatic rally to force Game 3. Cam Scott (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) and Ashton Johnson (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) opened the ninth with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with nobody out for Hunter Darst (Avon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon). Darst came through with a base hit to left field that drove in Scott, and Johnson, who was running on the play, scored from first as the Lancers misplayed the ball in left.

Key Moment
Lake County came out with a five-run first inning that included four hits and a walk. The big blow was a two-run home run by Valetine Cerna to cap the inning. The Lancers exploded for seven more runs in the third to open up a 12-1 lead.
